Tommee Tippee Tea Time Talk

In 2010 Tommee Tippee developed the Tea Time Talks to provide Kiwi parents with meaningful, practical information about early parenthood, supporting New Zealand families in making informed choices. Tommee Tippee’s Child & Family Healthcare Consultant will come to your coffee group, bring morning tea and facilitate an open discussion around any topic of your choosing (from pregnancy to Toddlers). This is not a Sales party. It is just a chance for Tommee Tippee to share the joys of parenting with you and your peers. The sessions are approx 1 hour and 15 minutes. Tommee Tippee fully supports the WHO code and advocates breast is best.

The Tommee Tippee Tea Time Talks are facilitated by Ali Voysey-Jensen our in-house Child & Family Healthcare Consultant who has over 30 years experience in the field of Paediatrics, Neonatal care and Lactation counselling. She is a mother of three ranging from 2 years to 20 years and is passionate about parenting.

Questions and Answers

Please send us your questions and we will try to provide you with information or links to web sites that can answer them. Below are some answers by Helen and Denise, both of which are registered Midwives and Childbirth Educators.

Hi, I’m pregnant with my second child and am really worried about the risk of mastitis during pregnancy and following the birth. With my last child I developed 7 breast abscesses and had 6 surgeries.

It sounds like you have had a really awful time in the past and it would be good to get some expert advice as soon as possible. Research states women who have had mastitis previously are likely to develop it again with a future child. I have included a link to New Zealand Lactation Consultants Association Directory pdf. http://www.nzlca.org.nz/NZLCA_Listing.pdf

It is important to report quickly any signs or symptoms. Such as

* Breast is warm to the touch, has a red tender area
* Feeling ill (flu like) with a temperature
* Area of breast is swelling/lumpy or pain/burning is present

Birth Resources provides information but it is not a substitute for professional midwifery or medical care. You should always seek the advice of your midwife, doctor or health professional for any concerns you may have regarding your health. Information and health practices change with ongoing research. The answers are to the best of our knowledge on the date the question was sent to us.
